JOB OPENINGS FOR EMMET COUNTY, IOWA


Deputy Sheriff

The Emmet County Sheriff's office is now taking applications for the position of Deputy Sheriff.

Salary is based upon experience starting at a minimum of $46,000 annually with step increases, paid vacation, holidays, sick benefits and paid employee health insurance. A successful applicant will need to be able to achieve and maintain necessary certifications as required by the Emmet County Sheriff's Office, report to work on short notice and be available to work different shift schedules as needed including nights, days, weekends and holidays. A high school diploma or GED is required as well as a safe driving record.

Lateral transfer of current Iowa certified officers will be accepted. All other applicants will be required to undergo a Civil Service Examination/Police Officer Selection Test/ "POST" and physical agility test. Top qualifiers must undergo a background investigation, psychological examination as well as other preemployment testing.

Full and Part-Time Dispatcher Positions

The Emmet County Sheriff's Office is currently accepting applications for one full and one part time tele-communicator.

Full time employment benefits include: paid vacation, holiday pay, health insurance, life insurance, sick leave and an IPERS retirement program.

A qualified employee must possess a high school diploma or GED, have the ability to earn and maintain certifications as required by law and department policy, have the ability to read at close range and at distances, have normal color vision, hearing within normal range, the ability to multi-task, be able to operate computer systems and other office equipment and have the ability to report to work on short notice.

Additionally a successful employee must have a safe driving record, be able to pass a background check, pre-employment physical, drug screen, interview and MMPI. The starting wage is $15.90 per hour with step increases.

Equipment Operator/ Laborer

Emmet County, Iowa is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Equipment Operator/ Laborer. This position participates in construction and maintenance of County roads, using heavy equipment and construction materials on County ROW, bridges, and culverts under the general supervision of the County Engineer and Maintenance Supervisor. Tasks can also include manual labor, preventive maintenance of equipment, excavation, tile repair and snow removal.

A high school diploma or G.E.D. is required. At least one (1) year of experience in construction, road maintenance and/or medium to heavy industrial or farm equipment operation/maintenance functions is required.

Good work skills that promote a team effort are essential. Strong communication skills, good recordkeeping skills and the ability to work safely are necessary. An Iowa Commercial Driver's License class "A" with air brake endorsement is required, and the employee must be insurable.

The part-time Jailer/Dispatch Operator will be a shared position between the Emmet County Jail and Emmet County Communications Center with the possibility of full-time employment. Duties include but are not limited to: the care, supervision and transportation of county jail prisoners as well as performing the duties of a telecommunicator.
